Printers
Printing account allows you to be able to enjoy the subsidized printing provided by the University. The account allows one to log in to the printer and print, photocopy and scan documents to email.
To get this account, one has to:
- Be Strathmore University Staff or Student
- Have an active Strathmore Domain Account and valid Strathmore Email
- If the account does not already exist, write to support@strathmore.edu with your strathmore.edu email address requesting for an account to be created. Kindly note that authorization for creation of New Staff email comes from the HoD / Manager of your Department / School. For students, send an email using your Strathmore Email requesting for account creation.
- For staff, any credit Top Up must be authorized by your HoD / Manager
- For student Credit Top Up, kindly pay at the cashiers the amount you want.
NB: Do not share your account information with anyone as this poses security challenge for you.
For further assistance write to support@strathmore.edu.
- Click on the “Start” button
- Click on the “Run” option
- Type \\tsavo or \\192.168.170.9 on the textbox that appears, as shown below, and press the “OK” button
- The window appears as below:
– For printing in black, connect to Black_Printer.
– For those with rights to print in Color connect to Color_Printer.
- Right click on the preferred printer and select connect on the drop down menu that appears. Allow the setup to download and install the drivers.
- Your computer is now connected to the new printing solution. You now need to set the printer as your default printer.
- To connect to the printer:
- On your Keyboard, Press Windows Icon Key and Letter R key simultaneously.
- A dialogue box called Run Will appear
- Type \\tsavo or \\192.168.170.9 in the Run dialogue box that appears, as shown above and press the “OK” button.
- A window with a list of the various print Queues will appear as below:
- To connect and Print in Black, Right Click on Black_Printer and select Connect
- To connect and Print in Color, Right Click on Color_Printer and select Connect
If in SBS:- Right Click on SBS_Black_Printer and select Connect
- Right Click on SBS_Color and select Connect
NB: When you Right click on the preferred printer and select connect on the drop down menu that appears, allow the setup to download and install the drivers. This is ONE OFF but should you access another PC, you will have to repeat the whole process.
Your computer is now connected to the new printing solution.
- Click on Start Button.
- On the Window that appears, type Printers and select Printers & Scanner
- Check out for Black_Printer or Color Printer
- Click on the preferred printer e.g. Black_Printer or Color Printer
- Select Manage
- On the Window that appears, select Set as default
You can now print your documents and collect them from any of the printers in campus!!!
- Click on the “Start” button
- Click on the “Devices and Printers” option as highlighted below:
- A window will appear showing you the available printers in your computer. An example is shown below:
- Right Click on the Printer you connected to e.g. Black_Printer or Color_Printer and select the option “Set as default Printer”.
- You can now print your documents and collect them from any of the printers in campus.

Note:
- Black&white printing = 4 per page
- Color printing = 15 per page
- Payment = pay at the finance cashiers and have the monies loaded in as credit.
- Printing mode = reducing balance.
- Printing account / PIN = send an email to support@strathmore.edu to get one if you do not yet have.
The journey to easy and cost-effective printing starts here:
Step 1: Open any web browser (Firefox / Chrome) and in the URL, type or copy and paste into it http://printers.strathmore.edu:8080/en-us/ as shown below:
Step 2: Enter your log in credentials as indicated below:
- Under Username: Enter studentID number
- Under Password: Enter password or printing pin to log in
Step 3: Once logged in, the profile page appears as below:
Note:
- Print File – helps select the file to print as shown in step 4.
- Jobs – View status of Jobs
- Reports – view reports on print jobs done and amount per print.
- Settings – schedule when prints jobs are to be done.
Step 4: Click on Print File Quick link for a page that appears as below:
Click OK to Print.
Step 5: Supported documents include:
Document Format: pdf, bmp, doc, docx, jfif, jpe, jpeg, jpg, odp, ods, odt, png, ppt, pptx, tif, tiff, txt, xls, xlsx
Maximum size of uploaded document: 20.00 MB
To Print PowerPoint i.e. 4 / 6 slides on one page follow the instructions below:
Printing PowerPoint / .ppt / .pptx
- Open the PowerPoint document to be printed.
- Click on File
- Select Print on the menu that appears after clicking File
- Set the following
- With the document saved as in d above, locate it, open it and print it as stated in Step 4.
Step 6: Once the document is sent to the printer, you can press F5 on the keyboard to refresh. Under jobs as shown below you will see:
ENJOY EASY PRINTING
- Print all: Selecting print all will print all the jobs in the print queue
- My Jobs: Select this option to see jobs ready
- Copy/Scan: Select these options to do copying or scanning.
On selecting My Jobs the screen below appears.
- Ready tab: displays jobs ready for printing. You can selectively print jobs and delete unwanted jobs by pressing on the printer icon and the X icon respectively.
- Favorite tab: Press on the star Icon and press Ok to store a job on favorites tab. To view your favorites press the favorites tab at the top of the screen.
- Printed Tab: Displays already printed jobs. You can reprint an already printed job.
- Press the copy/scan
- Press the send button(Left side, 2nd column, 2nd, row)
- The following screen will appear
- Note that the Recall button can be used to retrieve email addresses previously used to prevent retyping.
- To search for a contact from the global address list, select address book. The following screen will appear
- Note that you can use the scan@myq.local address to send email to your address (By default it sends scanned email to the person logged in)
- To select another user, press the Address Book drop-down. The following screen will appear
- Select the external address book and then press search.
- Press the search to search for a specific address.
- Select first-name to search by first-name.
- After inputting the name of the person to search. Select ok and the screen will display the external address book with addresses that match your search.
- Select the address you want, and then press ok.
- Press start button to start scanning. You should receive the scanned mail on your email address
Users can also print from their UBS disks.
On the right side of the printer, there is a USB port
- After inserting the USB device, the following screen will appear
- Press Yes.
- The following screen will appear (Ensure to select “Removable Memory” tab at the bottom of the screen tab to see the jobs on your removable disk)
- Select the job you want printed then press print button. Printable documents should only be in PDF.
Copy/scan: Select this option to do copying or scanning. The screen below will appear
Available options
Simplex, duplex, enlarge, reduction, selecting different papers, increase/decrease density to copy, no. of copies to print, book copying, preview e.t.c.
Press on the tabs below to view the different options e.g. “Image Quality” tab.
After selecting the required specifications press the large green button labeled start on your left to begin copying.
Strathmore University Printing is a Leased service that aims at providing both staff and students access to subsidized printing for both Color and Mono.
The ICT Services has over the years engaged suppliers of printing services to ensure that our users have the best services at afforrdable price.
Be advised that whereas the printing costs are low, Strathmore University supports Green Technology and therefore advise that ONLY PRINT WHAT YOU MUST PRINT.
The Printing Costs are as below:
- Black & White Printing = Kshs. 4.
- Black & White Photocopying = Kshs. 4.
- Color Printing = Kshs. 15.
- Color Photocopying = Kshs. 15.
As part of the Green Technology Initiative we advise:
- Print what you must, else read it from your gadget (PC, Laptop, Phone).
- If what you are printing will be trashed shortly PLEASE DO NOT PRINT.
- Print Back-to-Back and if possible 2 per page to reduce usage of too many papers.
