Guidelines For Using ICT Boardroom/Classroom Technologies
Technologies Available in Classrooms:
With A total of 46 classes in the University, the ICT Services Team has engaged in installing various technologies to creating a learning environment that is conducive for both the Lecturers and Students. Below is a list of available technologies in all the classrooms:
Projector:
The projectors are all networked to allow them to be powered over the network.
Desktop Computer:
The PC is installed with standard software that is readily available for presentation by both Lecturers and Students.
Amplifier:
The Amplifier is fine-tuned to be able to project surround sound to the room. It interconnects the speakers and the PC.
Speakers:
Mounted speakers project surround sound in the classroom to allow for listening to audio and video clips used in teaching and learning.
VGA Switcher:
The VGA Switcher is placed just below the Multimedia desk and is used to switch between different inputs. This box allows you to either use the PC in class or come with your laptop and use it in class for presentation.
Pop Box:
The Pop Box allows for connectivity in that it allows you to come with your own device e.g. Laptop and connect to the projector. The box has VGA, HDMI, Audio and Power ports for ease of connecting your gadgets.
DESKTOP COMPUTER/PC
For use by Lecturers and/or students for projecting presentations. Log off/Power off once done.
Logon Credentials:
Username = lecturer or .\lecturer (i.e. dot slash lecturer)
Password = inquire from faculty helpdesk (default for all Computers in the classes)
POWERING PROJECTOR
Open Mozilla/Chrome browser, then click on the Projector Bookmark. In the credential window that appears, use:
Username=EPSONREMOTE
Password = inquire from faculty helpdesk (default for all Projectors in the classes)
Click on basic control then on the power button displayed on the Monitor. Double click power button to switch off.
AMPLIFIER
For Surround Sound. It is connected to PC and Speakers in classes. Can also be used with personal laptop.
Do not change its settings/alter the knobs – Control Volume from your computer. Remember to Power off once done.
POP BOX
For enabling BYOD. It allows you to project or use sound from your laptop using either HDMI or VGA Connections.
It has the following sockets and ports: power, VGA, HDMI, Audio & LAN (Alternatively use Wi-Fi)
Close it once done.
SWITCHER
For switching modes between the Desktop PC and personal laptop in class. It is coded as below:
A = Desktop PC (Default)
B = Laptop VGA
C = Laptop HDMI
D = Blank
Always Set it back to DEFAULT once done.
REMOTE CONTROL
Switch on the TV screen by pressing the RED power button on the REMOTE below the screen.
NB: Note the remote is placed directly below the TV screen. The sources button is for switching display between the Desktop and the Laptop.
TELEVISION SCREEN
The TV screen is for projection. The presentations (images) from the laptop or Desktop PC are projected on the TV.
NB: To navigate sources from the Desktop to the laptop use the sources button on the remote.
HDMI CABLE
HDMI cable provisions for connection between TV screen and the laptop/ PC
NB: Pick the end of the HDMI cable available and connect it to the HDMI port on your laptop.
LAPTOP/PC
The laptop/PC are for Input. Kindly make sure they are ON and logged in to display the output.
NB: PC is connected directly while the laptop must be connected by the user. If connection is established but no display, PRESS Windows icon on the keyboard and P simultaneously. The window that appears, select duplicate.
How to Switch on the Projector in Class using the Web Browser
- Open Mozilla Firefox or Google chrome from your desktop and click on the projector bookmark as shown below:
- A window appears requesting for a username and password (If Username and Password is not provided, inquire from Faculty Helpdesk). Username and Password is already set so just click Log In.
- Once you log in, the projector interface appears as below; on the left side of the window click on Projector Control
- From the window that appears below:
- Under Basic Control Window, check on Power and click on either STANDBY or ON depending on what you want to do:
- STANDBY – POWERS OFF the Projector
- ON – Powers ON the Projector
- Under Basic Control Window, check on Power and click on either STANDBY or ON depending on what you want to do:
Note: ALWAYS REMEMBER TO POWER OFF THE PROJECTOR!!!
