Creating a Workspace at Home
Designate a location
- Separate from your living rooms (if possible)
- “Commute” to work
- Set ground rules
Configure your workspace
- Mimic Office set-up
- Secure devices
- Play music (if the house is too quiet)
Validate internet and network connectivity
- Check with your internet provider
- Confirm VPN with the help desk i.e. support@strathmore.edu
- Limit non-work internet use
Continue normal work routine
- Maintain standard working hours
- Dress for the office
- Take breaks

For Staff using internet bundles
It is advisable to disable Windows updates if you are accessing internet using bundles purchased from Safaricom, Airtel or any other telecoms provider.
Disable Updates on Windows 10
- Open Settings (holding down the Windows Key and Press I on your keyboard).
- Click on Update & Security.
- Click on Windows Update.
- Click the Advanced options button.
- Under the “Pause updates” sections, use the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page, and select the number of days that you want to defer quality updates (if applicable).
- After you complete the steps, your computer won’t download and install monthly quality updates until the schedule reaches its limit, or you change the setting back to zero.
Disable Updates on Windows 7 & 8
- Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Turn automatic updating on or off.
- In the Important updates menu, select Never check for updates.
- Deselect Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates.
- Deselect Allow all users to install updates on this computer and click OK.
