Microsoft 365
Microsoft 365 Education is a collection of services that allows you to collaborate and share your schoolwork. It’s available for free to teachers who are currently working at an academic institution and to students who are currently attending an academic institution.
The service includes Office Online (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote), 1TB of OneDrive storage, Yammer, and SharePoint sites.

Microsoft365 account allows one to be able to install Microsoft Office products on at most 5 personal gadgets such as laptops, desktops and phones. To get this account, one has to:
- Be Strathmore University Staff or Student
- Have an active Strathmore Domain Account
- If the account does not already exist, write to support@strathmore.edu with your strathmore.edu email address requesting for an account to be created.
NB: Do not share your account information with anyone as this possess security challenge for you and also allows other install the office product on their gadgets therefore reducing the number of activation you have.

Step 1: Sign in and Install Microsoft Office
If this is a new copy of Microsoft Office and you haven’t redeemed your product key (if one came with your copy) or associated it with a Microsoft account, go to office.com/setup and follow the prompts to sign in and enter your product key.
- Go to My Office Account at office.com/myaccount. If you’re not already signed in with the Microsoft account associated with your copy of Office do that now. If you’re signed in with a different account, sign out of that and then sign in again with the correct Microsoft account.
- On the My Account page, under the name of your subscription, select Install.
- On the next page, under Install information, select Install to begin downloading the installation package.
- Once the download has completed, open Finder, go to Downloads, and double-click Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg (the name might vary slightly).
Tip: If you see an error that says the Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer, wait 10 seconds and then try double-clicking the installer package again.
If you’re stuck at the Verifying…. progress bar, close or cancel the progress bar and try again.
- On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.
- Review the software license agreement, and then click Continue.
- Select Agree to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
- Review the disk space requirements, and then click Install.
- Enter your Mac login password, if prompted, and then click Install Software. (This is the password that you use to log in to your Mac.)
- The software begins to install. Click Close when the installation is finished. If Office installation fails, see What to try if you can’t install or activate Office 2016 for Mac.
Step 2: Launch an Office for Mac app and start the activation process
- Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock to display all of your apps.
- Click the Microsoft Word icon in the Launchpad.
- The What’s New window opens automatically when you launch Word. Click Get Started to start activating. If you need help activating Office, see Activate Office 2016 for Mac. If Office activation fails, see What to try if you can’t install or activate Office 2016 for Mac.

Step 1: Confirm that you have a valid Microsoft365 email account e.g. username@o365.strathmore.edu or lastname@o365.strathmore.edu
- If you do not have one, write an email to support@strathmore.edu providing your full details.
- If you do have, proceed to step 2
Step 2: Open a web browser and in the URL, type portal.office.com and click ENTER. You will see the page as below:
Step 3: Click on “Can’t access your account link?”
Step 4: On the page that appears (See below), enter your office365 email address into the User ID space and enter the characters appearing in the picture in the next text box then click next.
Step 5: The verification page appears once you click next on the above page. On the verification page shown below, check to see that an alternate email address is visible in the page and click email to receive the verification code.
Step 6: Check your Strathmore email to get the verification code from the Microsoft and enter it in the window that appears as below and click next:
Step 7: In the box labeled Enter new password, type the new password that you have chosen
NB: Remember that your new password must be at least 8 characters long, and contain at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 number and a special character.
Step 8: In the box labeled Confirm new password, retype your new password
Step 9: Click Finish
You may now sign in using your newly created password.
Applies To: Word 2016 and Word 2013
With Word 2013 and 2016, you can convert a PDF into a Word document that you can edit. To convert a PDF into an editable Word document, you open it like you would any other document.
- Click File > Open.
- Choose the location of the PDF and click Browse.
- Find the PDF and click Open.
The converted document might not have a perfect page-to-page correspondence with the original. For example, lines and pages may break at different locations.
